FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a session and how often do we meet?
My coaching sessions are 45 minutes. I recommend that we meet once a week to maintain momentum and activate accountability, both of which are necessary to attain your goals.

Why is coaching done mostly over the phone?
Coaching over the phone often allows you to open up more fully. You will find that you can better focus on the content of what is being shared, especially if you find yourself becoming emotional. You can even choose your favorite location where you feel most relaxed, creative and energized. With that said, coaching can also take place in person at my office, if that is what you prefer.

Are you available at any other times other than our weekly sessions?
Yes. If you have questions, a brief update, exciting news or want to bounce an idea around, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. I ask that you keep these contacts succinct. If the information seems to be better served in our session, I will suggest that.

What about confidentiality?
Everything we talk about is 100% confidential. I do not divulge my clients' names or any other type of information unless you make that request.

What are your fees?
Fees vary according to the number of scheduled sessions. The most common arrangement is to schedule either three or four sessions per month. Long distance telephone charges are the client's responsibility.

How do I make payments?
I have a PayPal account to allow you to easily make payments. Payments are required at the start of your three (or four) sessions. After those initial sessions, fees may be paid prior to each session or other arrangements can be made if you decide to engage in coaching for several months or longer.

Question: What is wellness coaching?

Wellness coaching focuses on helping you experience optimum vitality and wellness. I take into account the many interrelated physical and nonphysical factors that affect health, wellness, and disease, including the psychosocial and spiritual dimensions of people's lives.

As a wellness life coach, I help you:
1) Create a personal definition for optimal wellness
2) Enhance your mindfulness or self-awareness
3) Explore the numerous areas and options for self care
4) Develop proactive strategies to improve or maintain wellness
5) Provide accountability measures to activate and maintain positive change

The Wheel of Health developed by Duke University experts underscores the critical role of interrelating the mind, body and spirit for optimal health and healing.

The Wheel of Health is made up of three concentric circles that represent the primary elements of optimal health: Mindfulness, Self-Care and Professional Care.

Color and Its Meaning

Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a pivotal concept that embodies awareness of physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being. Self-awareness enables you to recognize symptoms as they emerge, when they are most readily treatable.

Self-Care: You are encouraged to explore how the dynamic interplay of the self-care concept resonates in all aspects of health and wellness, and to develop proactive strategies to improve or maintain your health.

Professional Care: Recognizing symptoms early is key to diagnosing health problems when they are most treatable, and awareness of the need for professional care is an integral component of the integrative approach to medicine.

Self-care

Mind-Body Connection

State of mind has a tremendous impact on how a body responds to stress- whether it reacts in ways that harm health or ways that protect. Breathing techniques, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery can be used to activate the body's relaxation response and so reduce stress.

Movement & Exercise

Very few people really exercise despite the fact that the human body is designed to be in motion. A mere 20 minutes of physical activity a day will help to prevent a very large number of common diseases, including heart disease and diabetes.

Nutrition
A healthy diet will both feed and protect you from many illnesses, while a poorly balanced diet will make you vulnerable to substances that compromise health. We encourage you to choose foods that will protect, for example, those containing Omega-3 fatty acids, rather than those that put your health at risk.

Personal Growth & Spirituality

Spirituality is the capacity to for you to see purpose and meaning in life in something larger than you. Self-awareness of this kind can have very positive beneficial effects on health and well-being.

Physical Environment
Every aspect of a physical environment can influence well-being. By paying attention to senses such as light, noise, color and odors, you can create environments that nurture.

Relationships

Positive social relationships and support are a key to well-being. The quality of relationships is very important, and you should be selective, spending more time with people who give you energy and less with those who drain you.

Professional Care

Pharmaceuticals & Supplements
Before taking pharmaceuticals or supplements, it is important to learn about them - why you need them, how they can help you, and what the side effects are. Medication may be prescribed by your health provider and provided by a pharmacist.

Preventive Medicine

Prevention is always preferred to treating a disease, and there are many tests that can help you identify your risk for disease and give you information that can help protect your from illness.

Conventional & CAM Treatments

Alternative approaches, such as massage, osteopathy, acupuncture and hypnosis, can often help when conventional medicine cannot. The key lies in the appropriate integration of all effective therapies.
